Vegetable Raita Recipe | Make Vegetable Raita at home
What is Raita?
Raita is a cooling and refreshing side dish in Indian cuisine made with yogurt and various ingredients such as vegetables, herbs, and spices. It serves as a delightful accompaniment to spicy dishes, adding a soothing contrast to the heat. Raita is famous for its versatility and the ability to complement a wide range of main courses, making it a popular and beloved dish.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup plain yogurt (curd)
- 1 medium-sized cucumber, peeled and cut into small pieces
- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder (optional, for heat)
- A pinch of red chilli powder (for garnish)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare curd
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the plain curd and make it smooth
Step 2: Prepare cucumber and Onion
- Peel and cut the cucumber and onion into small pieces
Step 3: Mixing Ingredients
- Add the cucumber and onion pieces to the curd
- Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder (if using), and salt to taste.
- Mix all the ingredients well
Step 4: Garnishing
- put the Raita in a bowl and add fresh coriander leaves.
Step 5: Keep it in the fridge for sometime (Optional)
- For enhanced flavor, refrigerate the raita for 15-20 minutes before serving.
Step 6: Serving
- Serve the Raita with Pulav, Biriyani or any main course.
