Peanut Chutney Recipe without coconut | Shengdana Chutney

Tasty Peanut Chutney

Peanut chutney is a delicious and versatile condiment that originates from South India. It’s a eaten mostly with South Indian dishes like dosa, idli, vada, and uttapam.

Here’s a simple recipe for peanut chutney.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup peanuts
  • 2-3 green chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 4-5 cloves garlic
  • 1 tomato
  • tamarind (about 1 teaspoon)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil (olive/ coconut/ any other based on your preference)
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds (Jeera)
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Few curry leaves
  • 1-2 red chillies (dried)

Instructions:

  1. In a pan dry roast peanuts until they turn golden brown and fragrant. Allow them to cool and remove the skin by rubbing the peanuts between your hands and keep it aside
  2. Soak tomato and 1/2 tablespoon tamarind in water for about 10 minutes to soften it.
  3. once the tomato cools down remove the outer layer of tomato
  4. In a pan add 1/4 tablespoon Jeera, 2 green chillies, 4-5 garlic cloves, tomato and mix it well
  5. add water, 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder and a pinch of salt and cook it well
  6. Once it’s properly cooked keep it aside to cool down
  7. Now add the peanuts in the mixer jar and add the tomato puree, add salt to taste. 
  8. add water as per the requirement and grind everything well. Remove it in a bowl 
  9. Now prepare the tadka. In a tadka pan add 2 tablespoon oil, 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 6-7 curry leaves 
  10. add the tadka to the peanut chutney

Peanut chutney is ready to be served with your favorite South Indian dishes like dosa, idli, vada or uttapam.
